Momster

Dearest readers.  As fun as it is , running the Orphanage for Wayward monsters is my heart's true work , and I consider it one of the shiniest facets on the gem that is my life. To love and provide homes for my monsters means the world to me , and I consider myself no less than the mother of my creations.

Today I would like to make a simple tribute to my own mother , who both was born and passed away on this very day. Her presence and her absence shaped me in countless ways , and my heart expands with love and sadness , illuminated by her light.

Happy Birthday , Mom.

The Daily Orphan : Day 6

Well , it's Saturday. I guess I was hoping this day wasn't going to come , but it has.  Orphie is on his own journey now, without me. I already am missing him. I'd be lying to say I didn't shed a few quiet tears.

Sometimes it's hard to remember that hard Goodbyes make room for big Hellos , but I think it's true. Maybe Orphie will contact me someday , from his new home.  I sure hope so.  Good luck out there Little One , I love you.

The Daily Orphan: Day 5

This has certainly been a record breaking blog week for me! And a record breaking day! Two posts! This one is about what happened today . I won't include the part of today I spent blogging about yesterday , that seems too meta ( or something) .

As the week has gone by I've gotten really attached to Orphie. I can't believe it's almost Saturday. For anyone who has followed all week , something is going to happen tomorrow. I'm still not ready to talk about it. Lets talk about today instead.....

Today started off in one of my favorite ways , breakfast with Evan. We scrounged up our quarters and went down the street to the teeny tiniest little place , The Koffee Pot.  This was a really good choice for Orphie too ,  the place is practically as little as he is! We got one of the 3 tables in there , so lucky!

You can't see my French Toast in this picture , but it was delicious! I think Evan is scolding Orphie for trying to take a bite of his breakfast. He is always blaming poor little Orphie for things he hasn't done!

It was rainy again today. I like to wear really bright colors weather it's cloudy or not.  I'm snuggling Orphie close because he is nervous. I think it's because of what I've planned to do before work.....

I pass this scary looking abandoned shack on the walk to work everyday. I've always been curious about it. Lafayette is not a place to have houses that look like this , it's normal in my neighborhood , but not here. I think it looks haunted. I wanted to snoop around a little.

We scrambled up the hill and peeked through the fence. I get freaked out pretty easy and I thought I could hear some rustling in the house , the door was ajar but Orphie* was too chicken to go in.        *The Headmistress

climbing up the hill turned out to be the hard way , as there was an entrance around the back.  One little flyer in the mailbox , and one little monster. Time was up for us , time to head to work! Maybe we will investigate another day.

Work was pretty ok. This is Orphie at work next to a sewing machine with our treat of the day! It's not a cookie like the last couple days , but it was Orphie sized and yummy!

I am currently turning these things into dinner! As I'm writing this! Look how healthy I can be! This probably cancels out the French Toast ,  pink donut , and 2 bags of potato chips that I had during the rest of the day. Oh dear , today is over. Pity.

The Daily Orphan: Day 4

I know this post is sort of a day late ( not that anybody is really keeping track right?) . This is what yesterday was like for me and Orphie. It was a lot better than yesterday!

We got ready and then hopped on the bus towards Berkeley. This was Orphie's second bus ride , because we haven't exactly been able to ride our bike without a seat on it! We don't like the bus as well as the train ( or the bike) but it can be sort of interesting. I like that it gives me a lot of time to look out the window.

This is a familiar picture isn't it! I really enjoy this combination of things , and I try and include them into all my mornings! We finished ' A Wrinkle In Time' and I loved it! Somebody says there is a movie but I just like the keep the experience of the book for myself I think.

The reason we went to Berkeley is because on Thursday mornings I go to therapy. I thought for a really long time about whether or not I wanted to announce this for everyone to see.  Honestly friends , I think it's sort of cool. I like my feelings! Big deal! Orphie liked it too. We had a breakthrough*!       *just kidding

It was a beautiful day yesterday and in the afternoon we made our way across the tunnel to work.

Work was great yesterday! I had my littlest group of sewers in the afternoon. We are making pajama shorts. While I was measuring some elastic for one of them , another snapped hers on accident and it hit me in the nose. It was actually really funny and they literally squealed with laughter.  I got to work with Amy ( hi Amy!) who I only get to see a few days a week and that was really nice. This is Orphie and the cookie of the day. Aren't they cute?

After work I took the train home. Evan the Pizzabot ( Hi Evan!) met me at the station because I didn't have my bike  ( I think I've mentioned that!) . We had a beer  and watched all the funny TV shows I like  . Orphie didn't drink or watch TV with us. He was already asleep in my purse ( a dry one) , wrapped up in my yellow scarf. It  was a really nice day !

The Daily Orphan: Day 3

Today was a horrible rotten day! I hate today's stupid guts! Here is why:

For one thing , this rotten day tried to trick me and Orphie by starting off pleasantly with cereal and coffee.  I did do a lot of dishes ( that I failed to do last night) and that sort of put me in a mood.

I've been working on this dress for over a week , and I made a big mistake on it and I think it makes my butt look ridiculous.

The Daily Orphan : Day 2

This morning started out in a very , very sleepy fashion.

The pitter patter of rain outside the window makes the eyelids of this Headmistress very heavy indeed. Orphie was not helping me to wake up. He hit the snooze button three different times! Lazy little Orphan!  I wasn't too upset with him though. Sleeping in is a valuable thing! Lots of people have to wait all week for that  , so I feel a bit lucky.

We were glad we woke up because there was a surprise waiting for us outside! Somebody left some chocolate chip cookies in my bike helmet! Orphie wanted to gooble them up for breakfast , but I didn't let him. It was hard to explain why it is a bad idea to eat cookies if you have no idea where they came from or why they are in your bike helmet , even if they do seem a wonderful and tasty surprise! I maybe mentioned that cookies are not a proper breakfast food , but those who know the Headmistress are aware that I don't take a firm stance on that , really.

The Daily Orphan : Day 1

The Daily Orphan is a week long blog segment that will document the life of one Monster , a travel Orphan , really. This little monster will follow me everywhere , until Saturday.

Please don't ask me about what will happen on Saturday , I'm really not ready to talk about it.

My hope is that The Daily Orphan will be a nice way to bring the Orphanage out and about with me , as I ( the Headmistress) have been very , very busy lately  , and perhaps neglecting my Orphanage duties.

So , without further preamble , I will tell the story of Day One.

This is my little friend , The Daily Orphan. I haven't given him a name yet , but I'm sure it will come to me soon enough. I might ask Angela for her advice on this matter. Angela is my friend ( best) and a real patron of the Orphanage . I bet you will meet her later this week.

Today started with a visit to my favorite thrift store in Chinatown .  I guess I should explain that I probably go here every single week. The people that work there know me , and they ask where I've been if I stay away too long.  I just love to find treasures and I like to dress up! It's fabulous and you should try it!  Anyways , I was a little sad that this gem green dress didn't fit around my curves very nicely at all. Little Orphan is just up there on a hook , looking around.

We did manage to find a couple of treasures though! I spent around five dollars , and it was totally worth it.

Somebody even made some new friends! It was a wonderful visit.
After the thrift store ,  we went home and I ate about 3 bowls of Frosted Flakes. This was a very bad idea. That was too much sugar for the Headmistress and it made me sort of jittery and jumpy. Angela let me know I was being neurotic as I packed and unpacked my wallet , keys , phone , and Monster into my backpack over and over again. I wanted to make sure I didn't forget him when I went off to work!

We waited for the train that I take to work everyday. This was a first time for the little Orphan so I know he was really excited. I was sort of excited too but I bet that was at least partly because of the Frosted Flakes.

I didn't take any pictures of us at work today , but I will later this week. Little Orphan sat in my backpack while I taught twelve girls scouts how to sew an apron for something they call ' Apple Valley Days' . My understanding is that this is a week in school where you get to dress up in bonnets and eat lunch from a basket. It sounds like fun!

The girl scouts were cute but they wore me out a little bit. Orphie (is that his name?) and I picked up some wine and groceries on the way home. I made it my New Years Resolution to cook healthy food for myself , and I'm sort of doing it! Hooray!
